We had veggie sushi at a place next to my mechanics, on Valencia, which for a non-Japanese food loving person, was actually pretty good. It was a meet-n-greet with my old friend Paul (18 years we've known each other!), and his new wife. It's so sweet to have long-term friendships, wonderful in different ways, including just getting to see people change, and know that, oh, change really is the order of things.
But the coke. People (meaning my wife and most others who are listening to my subtle-coke stories) don't believe in the nuances of coke, but it's there if the mind is open.
So the veggie sushi coke was from a can, and served over ice in a standard restraurant glass--you know, those blocky-though-round glasses, usually with some half-hearted wavy pattern. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 rating. The bite was a bit too strong, and the syrup was a bit too thin, though to it's credit, the syrupy quality did last as long as it should. With too-thin cokes, it spikes up in both sugar and carbonated bite, and then drops off into a thin, watery and bitter ending. This is often the fate of cheap soda cokes, where they're skimping on the syrup-to-water ration.
But this coke did do the job of setting off against the air tastes and weights of the sushi (especially sans meat, though I'm a veggie), so points for that.
